I'd like to begin this entry with the below quote and link:

"... America was never meant to belong to those who would trade its soul for order, its children for obedience, or its citizens for silence."

Much of daily life is maintenance: taking care of our households, our work, the people and animals we love. Beyond that are the unexpected events that interrupt routines and require adaptation. For many, a further layer is reserved for the things that bring joy, offer relief, or provide necessary distractions.

In this moment, that layered structure is increasingly unstable. I know that this deterioration is not confined to one place; it has been affecting hundreds of millions of people worldwide.

Many of us saw this trajectory forming for more than a decade and were met with skepticism or dismissal from those having the privilege of never being required to look within. For many, there's a comfort with accepting beliefs from an outside authority because it can be the easier option, and often brings a sense of spiritual and physical safety.

There's a noticeable shift this week in how people are sharing facts about the rapid dismantling of our democracy. What once felt distant or abstract is now here. There's also a growing realization that there are more common beliefs among us than formerly thought, and a form of effective triage is becoming more defined each day. Connections are being formed, catalyzed by this manufactured chaos.

Giving support to the many groups and organizations doing essential work, often behind the scenes, will sustain communities. If my work can offer calm, or help someone feel more connected, that feels like a meaningful act right now.
